What need does
Looker
fulfill?
Looker fulfills the need for a self-serve analytics tool that anybody with SQL skills can use to query the data stored in a company’s data warehouse, visualize the data as reports, and build shareable dashboards for consumption by the entire company.
Like any BI tool, Looker can be used to analyze any type of data that is stored in the data warehouse and analysts can also build data models using LookML, Looker’s data modelling language.
Additionally, Looker Actions enables you to make your reports actionable by sending data to downstream tools and triggering workflows. This is also known as Operational Analytics and is essentially a Reverse ETL feature wherein instead of syncing data from a warehouse to external tools, you can sync data from Looker itself.
